OUR STORY

When Horseshoe Bay West was originally platted, the park site was zoned for multi-family, high-density condominiums. Striving to maintain a more open landscape, the community expressed strong opposition to the zoning, and the vision for a nature park was born.

Horseshoe Bay Nature Park was made possible by the generosity of the John W. Smith family, owners of the property, and many other donors and volunteers. HSB Park, Inc. was established in November 2019 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and in partnership with the city of Horseshoe Bay, meets the costs of developing and maintaining the park.

The park is an active conservation and restoration site providing nature education as well as an escape for visitors to walk the trails and relax in nature.

The Horseshoe Bay community has a reputation for promoting nature and conservation, as evidenced by the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, Dark Sky Community designation, Scenic City certification, and green space commitment. Horseshoe Bay Nature Park continues the legacy of a community proudly committed to the preservation of the Highland Lakes ecosystem.
